Solifugids are known under many names: camel spiders, solifuges, solpugids, sun spiders, wind spiders .....
They are not dangerous to humans, although if harassed they can bite opening a wound prone to infection. They are fantastic little characters, hairy and running very fast (apparently 30 km/h). With the two eyes they can see pretty well. They have very powerful chelicerae able to cut hair, skin, feathers, small bones.
Solifugids are active hunters and extremely difficult to photograph due to their speed and constant movement. This funny character decided to cooperate for few moments on my table before running into the night.

For the last 27 years I have been living and working in Botswana, Africa. Since my school years I was always interested in taking pictures or filming, especially related to nature. Today most of my images document the incredible wilderness and wildlife of Botswana. I have been documenting the traditional life and the culture of the People of Botswana as well, especially the San and Hambukushu People. I like to experiment with HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography (but not overdoing it, mostly for the sake of improving the image; and with macro of small creatures.
