Description
Botswana has many places with incredible ancient rock art of the San People - Bushmen of the Kalahari. Many of these paintings are thousands of years old. I was very lucky to discover many of the sites, especially in the Eastern part of the country. Many paintings are still undiscovered, hidden in the hills and caves. I share the location of these treasures only with few people I can trust. Too many sites have been destroyed by art collectors, local people not happy with the visitors or by vandals, from ''civilised'' west as well. This picture is for me very special. Well hidden, difficult access to the site and on an overhanging granite rock. Many people refuse to accept the San art as art. This picture is the best example for me that San People were indeed extraordinary artists. Look at the yellow giraffe painted on top of an older reddish panel. Few strokes of a brush and we look at an unmistakable image of an iconic African animal. I compare it with the art of caricature when few strokes capture the essence of a human face or situation recognisable by everybody. So here, with the giraffe, few simple strokes represent the easily recognisable reality.

Thank you Sorin, I only try to capture the beauty of the San (Bushmen) ancient art. And digital photography makes it so much easier.
