Description
Okavango Delta – one of the last pristine ecosystems of Africa, a vast wetland of legendary beauty, incredible wilderness, home to many African species of wildlife, especially great African mammals; a place where several rare and endangered animals still live. Hundreds of kilometres of swamps, island, channels, grasslands - in the middle of the Kalahari Desert – indeed a jewel of the Kalahari. The annual flood coming from Angolan highlands, some 2.000 km away arrives at the beginning of the year, and it takes 6 months to reach the furthest areas of the delta. The water of the delta is the only water available for hundreds or even thousands of kilometres, a life sustaining arteries of the Kalahari. Without it the desert would be much larger and completely dry.
